Phishing is when fraudulent companies or individuals use email to trick you
into giving them your personal information. Within the email, it will ask you to
visit a fake website and “update your personal information.” Once you do this,
they capture your account number and password and can then access your account.
For protection on your General Electric
Credit Union account(s), we have activated two security features within
Online Banking, one is
Multi-Factor Authentication and the other is
Security Key. Security Key is a code that will appear next to your member number
every time you login to Online Banking.
Once it has been activated, if you don’t see the Security Key when you first
login, you should contact us immediately so we can change your password.
Important Reminder: We will never initiate a phone
call or an email asking you to update, validate, or provide us with your personal information.
Again: If you receive an email that looks like it
is from us, asking you to "login" and update your information - IT IS A PHISHING SCAM! If you do this by accident, please
contact us immediately so we
can change your passwords that you may have just given to someone else.
The only time we will ask you for your
information is when you call us regarding information on your account (we need
to verify that it is you), or when you initiate a loan from us and we need
additional information.
How does Security Key work? The first time you login, you will be
presented with a screen that will describe
Phishing and this service. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll be asked
to enter your code. Once you do this and click, “Set Security Key,” you’re all
done. From then on, every time you INITIALLY login to
Online Banking, you’ll see this
code next to your member number. Please note: After you’ve logged-in, see your
code, and begin performing transactions – this code may no longer be visible; it
is only important to see it when you first login.
