Ways We Can Help

<<Back to Identity Theft
<<Back to Phishing Scams

As we are seeing a rise in identity theft cases, GECU wants to help you protect your finances. Here are some ways we can help:

  • Provide you with information through newsletter articles and our Helpful Links page. Watch for articles in Bright Horizons and on our website. You’ll also find a Helpful Links page that will direct you to websites like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

  • Enroll in FREE Online Banking. By enrolling for Online Banking, you can have access to your account information 24-hours a day, 7-days a week and can monitor your accounts for suspicious activity. You can: review transaction history and balances, view and print GECU credit card information, and much more.

  • Sign-up for FREE E-Statements. Once enrolled for Online Banking, you can opt to receive your monthly statement via E-Statements. This will help to eliminate the chance for someone to take your information from your mailbox. Around the fifth day of the month, you’ll receive an email notifying you that your monthly statement is available to view and print from FREE Online Banking.

  • Use the Security Key feature found in Online Banking. FREE Online Banking allows you  to monitor your account(s) from anywhere, even when we're closed. And, it has an enhancement that will protect your personal financial information from phishing scams. Security Key is a code associated with your GECU account(s) and let's you know you are really at our official Online Banking site, not a fake phishing screen.

  • Contacting us through Email. When emailing us, please do not email your entire member number, social security number, and/or passwords; it is not a secure form of communication. This is why we mail you your passwords and PIN numbers.

  • Online shopping protection. Register your CashPlu$ Debit/ATM card with MasterCard SecureCode and your GECU Credit Card with Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode and protect your finances while shopping online.

  • Lost or stolen debit or credit card. If your GECU debit or credit card is lost or stolen, contact us as soon as you are aware. We will block that card and order you a new card.

  • Open a Safe Deposit Box. Safe deposit boxes are a great way to keep your personal belongings safe (i.e. social security card, passports, etc.) These are available at our Reading Road and Mason offices.

  • Sign-up for E-Bills. Our FREE Web BillPay allows you to receive your monthly bills, from major billers, by e-bills. This will also help protect you from anyone acquiring your personal information from your mailbox.

  • Obtain a copy of your FREE Credit Report. Annualcreditreport.com is a secure and centralized site created by the three major credit bureaus which allows you to obtain a copy of your credit report once every 12 months. Visit annualcreditreport.com for additional details today! Be sure to use annualcreditreport.com for a copy of your free credit report. Other sites, such as freecreditreport.com, are not the same as annualcreditreport.com.

Please note: We will NEVER initiate a phone call or an email requesting your personal financial information.

For more information about protecting your personal information, please contact us. You may also visit the FTC website. They have a website full of helpful information on a variety of topics.
