What are cookies?

If your browser wants to verify your identity every time you visit Online Banking, even when you’ve chosen “Private Computer”, your cookies are likely disabled. Cookies (or browser cookie) are small files stored on a user’s computer to help a website function better. When you first visit a website, a cookie is created storing information to make navigating the website easier in the future.

General Electric Credit Union’s Online Banking requires the use of cookies for several different functions to improve your user experience, including:

  • Multifactor Authentication (or MFA) uses them to remember if your device has been noted as a trusted site by you for future visits making logging in from your personal device quick and easy (e.g. choosing “Private Computer”)
  • Money Management, External Transfers, and Popmoney® use them to store preferences and streamline the presentation for future visits.

Why does browser history matter?

If you’ve entered in the correct login information but still can’t log in, your browser may have bad data cached. The first time you visit a site, the browser will save pieces of the site so it can display the files stored in its cache much faster than it can pull fresh files from a server. The next time you visit that site, the cached files will help cut down the page load time. Deleting your browsing history will clear the cache and help your browser pull new or updates files from the site.

Take a look to find some tips for your browser to add cookies exceptions and delete cache.
