GECU's ATM cards operate on the Jeanie network; you can make deposits and
withdrawals at over 1,100 Jeanie ATMs located around Greater Cincinnati. Plus,
our cards carry the Pulse network allowing you to access other ATMs worldwide.
Here are some helpful ways to avoid ATM Surcharges:
Use your CashPlu$ Debit card. You can use this card for all your purchases anywhere MasterCard is accepted; it doesn’t matter how small your purchase amount is! Plus, you have the added security of not carrying around large amounts to cash.
Use an ATM in your area that doesn’t surcharge. GECU is part of the Alliance One Network. This national
non-surcharge ATM network does NOT surcharge members of the Alliance. Anytime you use an ATM with the Alliance One
symbol, you will not be surcharged for your transaction. View ATM locations to find GECU ATMs and Alliance One ATMs, in your area.
Understanding the fees and surcharges associated with ATMs can be confusing.
Therefore, we have provided the following information:
GECU ATMs: When you use an ATM owned by GECU, there is no fee
or surcharge for any transaction.
Foreign, Non-GECU ATMs:
Foreign ATMs, in the
Alliance One network
do not incur a surcharge.* However, we pass on
a small portion of what we are charged for the transaction is we
continue to subsidize this cost for our members:
$.50 for Jeanie ATM
transactions, and
$.75 for non-Jeanie transactions
Foreign ATMs outside of the
Alliance One network
incur the same small fee from the credit union, as stated above:
$.50 for Jeanie ATM
transactions, and
$.75 for non-Jeanie transactions,
and
the financial institution that owns the machine may charge you a
surcharge which can be upwards of $3.00. Please note: We do not charge
this fee, it is controlled by - and collected by - the ATM owner.
Get extra cash back. When you use your ATM card at the grocery store or other merchants that allow you to use an ATM card with your PIN, you can ask to get extra cash back from your purchase. You simply enter an amount higher than your purchase amount and they will give you the difference in cash.
Take out enough cash for the week or pay period. By taking out a larger sum with one visit to cover your cash needs for the week or pay period will allow you to avoid multiple trips to the credit union or no-surcharge ATMs. This is also a good tip to follow if you do have to use an ATM that surcharges; it avoids incurring multiple surcharge fees in a short amount of time.
Mail in deposits, set-up direct deposit, or use the night deposit box at the credit union office. Many ATM owners are now surcharging for making deposits into their ATM. To avoid this surcharge, make your deposits directly with the credit union via mail, office visit, night deposit box, or direct deposit.
