General Electric Credit Union (GECU) was chartered in 1954 for the employees of General Electric Aircraft Engines. Since then, we've grown into one of the largest credit unions in the State of Ohio by expanding our field of membership to include Select Employer Groups (SEGs) and those who live, work, worship, or attend school in the Ohio counties of: Hamilton, Butler, Warren, Montgomery, Clermont, Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, Greene, Highland, Preble, Clark, Miami, Darke, and Shelby; those who live or work in the Kentucky counties of: Boone, Campbell, and Kenton; and those who live or work in the Indiana counties of: Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Switzerland, and Union.
We are federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) which is governed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency run by the federal government to ensure proper regulation of all federally insured credit unions (NCUA is to credit unions as FDIC is to banks). Your savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government. Rest assured that your funds are safe and secure at GECU; not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost by a member of a federally insured credit union, such as GECU. While many financial institutions were - and still are - negatively impacted by the recent tough economic times, we continue to thrive. We've experienced growth throughout many areas, all while keeping competitive loan rates and strong deposit rates. We are one of the most secure and stable financial institutions around. We're continually proving our financial strength through recognition with: Bauer Financial who ranks GECU with "5 Star Superior Performance" and IDC Financial who ranks GECU as "Superior."
We continually search for ways to better serve our members. We think of ourselves as more than just a financial institution; we're a trusted partner and work hard to prove this to you in everything we do. As a credit union, we differ from others on how we do business… our members are our owners, we are not-for-profit, and we have a volunteer Board of Directors. The decisions we make, when structuring our products and services, are focused on our member-owners – you!
GECU has always remained true to the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” So, what exactly does that mean? For example, we don't confuse our members with complex and often tricky credit card programs; we offer a straight-forward program without the hidden fees. When we say we have a free checking account – really, truly, it's free. You won't find us looking for ways to impose a new fee or change an old fee to make money; we look out for our members’ best interests all the time.
Please take a few moments to see all we have to offer. If you're not yet a member, visit our Membership Information page to find out if you're eligible and for instructions on you to get started. Contact us for additional information and questions.
