How it started
The Robert A. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship was created in 1998 to honor the memory of Robert A. Cunningham, who volunteered as a GECU board member for 30 years. He sat on the supervisory committee for 10 years and served three terms (nine years) as a Chairperson of the Board. This college scholarship honors five-graduating high-school seniors who share the same spirit of volunteerism and scholastic achievement as Mr. Cunningham.
This year, we added the Robert A. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship for GECU Official Family. This scholarship follows the same guidelines as the Robert A. Cunningham Memorial Scholarship and is awarded as a separate scholarship to students of GECU’s Official Family who exemplify the spirit of volunteerism. Two recipients are awarded a one-time, $2,000 scholarship as they head off to further their studies through higher education.
