GECU Celebrates America250 with Flag Ceremony and Donations to Local Veterans Organizations
As the United States hit its 250th anniversary, General Electric Credit Union (GECU) was proud to honor this historic milestone through a series of initiatives centered on service, community, and shared civic pride.
During the ceremony, members of the Mason Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Color Guard led a respectful retirement of the American flag, followed by the raising of a new flag. The moment brought together GECU leadership, team members—including those who have served in the armed forces—and community partners.
“Today’s ceremony is an opportunity to pause and honor the significance of this milestone, as well as the individuals—past and present—who have served and contributed to the nation’s ongoing story,” said President & CEO Tim Ballinger in remarks during the ceremony. "May the flag we’ve raised remind us of our shared history and responsibility to one another. Through service, connection, and community, we all play a part in carrying these values forward."
As part of the event, GECU presented a combined $2,500 in donations to two organizations making a difference in the lives of veterans and their families:
Flag ceremony
On June 30th, GECU held a flag retirement and raising ceremony at its corporate headquarters.During the ceremony, members of the Mason Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Color Guard led a respectful retirement of the American flag, followed by the raising of a new flag. - Easterseals Redwood, which helps veterans and their families successfully transition to civilian life through employment and support services

Honor Flight fundraiser
In addition to corporate giving, GECU team members came together to support Honor Flight Tri-State, a nonprofit that provides veterans with trips to visit memorials in Washington, D.C., through a weeklong “Red, White, & Blue Jeans” fundraiser.We’re proud to announce the fundraiser raised a total of $1,500. These efforts highlight the generosity and engagement of GECU employees in supporting those who have served.
Branch celebrations
Across GECU’s footprint, branch teams also participated in America250 by updating or installing American flags, putting up patriotic decorations, and supplying light refreshments to those visiting the branches. These efforts helped bring the spirit of the commemoration to members throughout Ohio and Kentucky.Honoring the past, investing in the future
